KAIROS Outside

Kairos Outside......a Ministry Opportunity in Mississippi

The different areas of focus for Kairos offer various opportunities and degrees of commitment to those who feel called into its ministries. In the fall of 2004 Mississippi held its 1st weekend for women whose lives are impacted by the incarceration of loved ones. The ministry continues to grow and serve in this area.

What is Kairos Outside?

… Kairos Outside is designed to support the families of men and women who are or have been incarcerated in the country's state and federal correctional facilities, as well as county jails and youth offender programs. The spouses, parents and other relatives of the incarcerated often "do time" right along with their loved ones. It is important for them to know that they are not alone and that there is a Christian community that cares.

This support is first provided in a safe environment with Christian people during a Kairos Outside weekend. During this weekend, the guests will also have a chance to interact with other women who are in similar situations and learn how to form small groups to support and give them strength in their life's journey.

The structure of Kairos Outside is similar to other three day weekend retreats; but like other three day weekends, its model ministers to the brokenness peculiar to the families and loved ones of the incarcerated.

You can support this ministry in the following ways:

• Pray for the Advisory Council and its leadership of the ministry in Mississippi.

• Tell others about the ministry and ask them to pray and get involved as they feel led.

• Pray.

• Give monetarily through Kairos of Mississippi for the support of this as well as other Kairos Ministries in the state.

• Give your time in serving on the team or the support community for the weekends.

• We need:

o Outside Angels who serve during the weekend as support staff.

o Men to serve on the kitchen and prayer team .

o Fresh flowers for the weekend, motel soaps and creams and shampoos (start saving them)

o Cuddly stuffed animals to be held by aching arms.

• And did we mention prayer?

Please share your thoughts, ask your questions, tell others and pray. Pray not just for this ministry, but for all Kairos ministries and those ministries through which the laborers come.
