Kairos of Mississippi is the Mississippi Chapter of Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc.
Kairos is a laity led and clergy supported Christian ministry that seeks to transform the environment inside prisons and to support the incarcerated in creating and sustaining strong, supportive Christian communities within the prison. Kairos works to achieve this goal by conducting two weekend-long retreats, modeled after the Cursillo movement, each year in each prison and through monthly reunions and weekly small group meetings.
Service in Kairos is open to all Christians, both laity and clergy, of all denominations and promises all who volunteer an opportunity to see God in action while serving Christ in the form of incarcerated persons, their families and those who work in the prison environment.
You can support Kairos by volunteering to serve on a retreat team that will be trained and prepared using time proven methods before entering the prison for a weekend. Although retreat team volunteers are our most pressing need, volunteers are also needed to support the retreat team without entering the prison. Volunteers are needed for the Kairos Outside ministry that serves female family members of incarcerated individuals and takes place entirely outside the prison environment. Of course, financial support is always needed and is another opportunity to serve Christ in the Kairos Prison Ministries.
